Goal Type:

Half Marathon Finish

Running Accomplishments:

Started running Jan. 26, 2009.  I've ran 6 days a week since and have only missed 2 days.

I no longer hate to run.

 May 9, 2009 ran I-Drive 5K in Orlando FL in 29:58

Short-Term Running Goals:

Run a 5K in 30 minutes.

I have just decided to train for a half marathon.

  • July 11 Farmington Festival Days 1/2 Marathon

Long-Term Running Goals:

Continue to run even after my races and be an old running woman.  After my half I just may decide on a full marathon but right now just the thought of the half is daunting.

Personal:

I am married to Matt (Twinkies) who loves to run.  I have been the supportive wife watching him run his races and calling him crazy.  We have 4 kids.  Our oldest is 7 and our youngest is 1 1/2.  I homeschool our two oldest boys.  I have decided that I really want to lose my extra fat and get back into shape.  I have always hated to run but I think I am finally past that.  I hope to someday actually say that I love to run.  I would be proud to call myself a runner.  Most of my runs are on the treadmill because I'm unable to leave the kids home alone while I go out for a jog.

Did my 1/2 mile warm-up and cool-down and ran the rest at 5mph.  Today I downloaded a bunch of songs I love on the mp3 player and listened to them while I ran.  I loved this because I could focus on songs instead of laps.  One song equals about 1 lap for me so I just had to keep telling myself only "x" songs left.  On the last song it was a little longer than the lap so I just kept running until the song was over...really good for me.  I also carried two 2 1/2 pound weights for my first mile.  I did some curls and arm lifts until I was really feeling the burn.  I got a side cramp after about the 1st mile but I just kept running through my songs.  I'm super sweaty but I feel good!

yes...you are a woman after my own heart. I think that's an awesome accomplishment to not hate running!!!! Good first start. That was also my first goal and actually a lot of people's first goal (they just are eloquent enough to express it). Good luck!!!

Oh..wow...I just kept reading and saw that you homeschool too..we really are kindred spirits!!!

Way to go Susie! Have you signed up for a race? I like to run outside on Tuesdays if you ever need a running buddy let me know. Don't worry about the pace Tuesday is a rest day and I can run whatever!

Sarah- Thanks for the encouragement. It's good to see that you're past the not hating to run part and actually have to go out and run even when you and everyone else in the family is sick...I guess there is hope for me. Do you homeschool all your school age kids? This is my first year and it's been easy so far because they are just K and 1st grade and I teach them both the same stuff...I guess we'll see how it goes from here.

Kathie- I would love to run with you...that would be a joke for you but would really push me. Maybe I could work out a deal with Matt somehow to run on the treadmill while I go outside, he goes to work at about 8 so I would need to be back by then. I am going to run the Memorial Day 5K in Woods Cross. It's free and I don't like running enough yet to pay for a race...in fact I still question why I'm not the one getting paid. Matt wants to run it too so I think we might both end up pushing strollers or something. Maybe I can talk him into sitting it out with the kids so I can reach my 30 min. goal.
